Eating their own: Dems attack Baird

August 31st, 2007

MoveOn.org is attacking Rep. Brian Baird for changing his mind about Iraq after visiting the region. Usually that’s called “becoming informed”, but MoveOn won’t have it:

Baird voted against the war in 2003 and had opposed it until last month. Republicans have been quick to key on his remarks as evidence of progress in Iraq.

MoveOn disagrees, calling the war “unwinnable.”

“So far this has been one of the bloodiest summers in Iraq, and voters don’t want to continue down a failed path,” said MoveOn campaigner Nita Chaudhary. “They want representatives who will stand up to President Bush’s reckless policy and bring our troops home.”

For most Americans, it is reasonable to change your mind when you have new information. Rep. Baird has been there, walked the streets, and changed his mind. MoveOn seems to be saying “Don’t confuse me with facts, my mind is made up.”
