“Remarkable Erratum” and Newsweek

October 12th, 2007

Daniel Pipes, the noted historian and expert on middle eastern affairs, often has a wonderful way with words that causes those delightful “twitches” that awaken and amuse. Of Newsweek’s recent bungling of a piece critical of Rudy Giuliani’s “team”, Pipes referred to their correction as “remarkable erratum”, a turn of phrase that made me smile, especially after reading the Newsweek quote:

Editor’s Note: In our print edition, several captions for the photographs accompanying this report were inadvertantly transposed. Martin Kramer’s photograph is identified as Norman Podhoretz; Daniel Pipes’s photograph is identified as Kramer; Peter Berkowitz’s photograph is identified as Pipes; Nile Gardiner’s photograph is identified as Berkowitz’s and Podhoretz’s photograph is identified as Gardiner’s. NEWSWEEK regrets the errors.

Besides the amusing “twitch” Pipes provided, I was also pleased with the roll call of names that Candidate Rudy is being associated with, even though Newsweek managed to incorrectly identify 5 of the 6 “advisors”. Having Pipes on Rudy’s team makes me like the front runner even more.

There are, at least, some adults in the running this year.
