WP Pingback and Trackbacks

Having “built” the theme for this blog to match my Genealogy site’s format, I’m a little unsure if I have all the components in place. I want to show the links to blogs that have linked to my articles and to be honest, I’m not sure how that’s done. I was alerted to this while seeing some alarming incoming links having to do with various body parts I was sure I didn’t mention in my blog. Rushing to those posts, I didn’t find the offending links, but then I noticed I didn’t find ANY links.

For the spam trackbacks, I found a plugin that should help, the Trackback Validator, a project of the Computer Security Lab at Rice University and programmed by Dan Sandler and Andy Thomas.

In my search, I did find what I think is the best tutorial on pingbacks and linkbacks in WP: OptiNiche’s Trackback Tutorial by Teli Adam. I’ll be mining the site for more of this type of explanation; Teli Adlam does a very good job of providing concise, easy to understand explanations.

I suspect if I look at the default WP theme I’ll see how the trackbacks are displayed. But while I had those two resources at hand, I wanted to pass them along to others adapting the same genealogy software, The Next Generation of Genealogy Site Building, to a WP theme.
