The cabin sides are on, and the inside is painted.  Abbey is testing out her sea legs, aided by Kris, who also thought it looked enough like a boat to stuff her sleeping bag under the seat and plan to sleep in the boat overnight (you can see the edge of the sleeping bag under Abbey.)

Don't worry, I exercised my parental powers to put the kabosh on any fun stuff like sleeping in the boat overnight.

Looking at keeping costs down, I opted to buy 2 x 6 x 8' douglas fir for the cabin rafters.  I cut out the rafters, shaped them with the belt sander I got for Christmas, and sanded them with a new random orbit sander I bought with gift certificates from my sister in law.  Stained and varnished, with three coats of the spar varnish, they look pretty good.
Here I've added the upper stringers (the blocking you see around the inside of the cabin panels) and the curved supports (not yet painted, they are on either side of the companion way.)  I used the balance of the left over 1 x 12 fir from the very beginning of the project, and bought a 1 x 12 x 4' pine board from Home Base for the balance of the parts needed (wow, that pine sure cuts easily! Its like butter compared to the oak I used on the wheel.)  The plans call for 1 x 2 stringers, and then panel joiners along the sides of the top since a 4' wide panel won't reach from side to side.  I decided to simply put wider stringers along the aft portion, and a test fit of the top shows that it will work fine.
